UNICEF Time Machine

Our role in the project

  • Development of the control app to interact with the "time machine”
  • Web server and communication protocols
  • Remote support
On display at the UN General Assembly in September 2016 in the Visitor’s Lobby of the organisation's Secretariat Building in New York, the Time Machine is a project that devStep has had the privilege of developing for UNICEF along with Barcelona-based start-up, Domestic Data Streamers. This is a unique “time machine” designed to transport world leaders to their own childhoods through a multi-sensory experience. There is currently a lack of statistical data about the vulnerable situation in which many children around the world still live. The aim of this project is to raise the awareness of attendees regarding this problem. Those who are lucky enough to take part in this unique experience step inside a futuristic capsule and are asked questions about their childhood. Depending on their answers, the Time Machine creates a unique and personalised song. To round off the experience, a contract is printed off that symbolically commits the recipient to giving more visibility to children and to bear this issue in mind in every decision they make when they take their seats at the UN.
